Louis Vuitton City Guide Berlin (2014)

lv Strange as it might seem in view of the large number of tourists who flock here, Prenzlauer Berg has few hotels (but numerous B&Bs), with nearby Mitte, which boasts more than its share, absorbing the majority of visitors. Essentially a residential area, bastion of the yuppie set, Prenzlauer Berg is not the best place to look for accommodation, and only a few small establishments stand out. For his little hotel, Ulf Acksel went for an “exotic colonial” theme that is somewhat at odds with the neighbourhood, but is nonetheless rather beguiling. The rooms, suites and apartments spread across two 19th-century buildings have a rustic, ethnic, Balinese feel, creating a general mood of relaxation, lightness, and simplicity. Flower-filled, green and cooled in summer by several fountains and basins, the complex forms a curious oasis in the neighbourhood. A buffet breakfast is served every morning in the Café del Mar.

Each room is lovingly decorated with lots of attention to detail. The delightful Kairo Suite will make you feel like you have been transported away from the hustle and bustle of Prenzlauer Berg right on the set of The English Patient. Decorative themes range from China to Maritime to Movie, so there should be a room for every taste. Other suites include a China suite, a Safari suite and a Cairo suite, and each is designed to impress. tap-portugal-07-2010 In the heart of the Prenzlauer Berg area we find Ackselhaus & Blue Home, each occupying two neighbouring late 19th-century buildings. Both of them (the former in ochre tones and the latter in blue) aim to make their guests feel at home while in Berlin. What about staying at Afrika Deluxe, in China or at Movie? The ambience of each room corresponds to the name each one is given with details from far-flung places or films that made history in the world of cinema. A bit more expensive are the Blue Home apartments, where good taste is in décor reigns and guests can enjoy verandas that look out onto the Belforter Straße, as well as a lovely interior patio where water and lush vegetation dominate. Outlooks - Magazine Canada 05/2010 (2010)

outlooks-magazine-mai-2010 Our new digs, Ackselhaus/Blue House, are as unique as our previous. It’s easy to imagine being a foreign writer in 2010, checking into our modern-chic guest room and using it as a base to explore the city for a few months. Fittingly, it’s a blend of new and old: a 19th- Century building overhauled into a contemporary feel. Heavy crown moulding surrounds 15-foot ceilings which are sanded to show generations of old paint, while, at eye level, it’s fresh and clean. From our balcony, we have a view of the Jetson-era Fernsehturm tower. Downstairs, we’re served the finest breakfasts of an entire twoweek European trip. Starting around $175, these are not accommodations a hungry young writer could afford for long; but they are perfect for a gay couple to stay a few days and explore the drama of this city.

rosebuzz1 In ackselhaus & blue home you feel like in a world which is elegantly designed with a whiff of fantasy. The hotel rooms were not big enough to get all furniture, which Ulf Acksel brought home as souvenirs from his journeys, into the rooms. That is one reason why a second building, the Blue home, was built. A plashing fountain with fishes and water lilies underline the patio’s Mediterranean ambience where residents can feel free to dream. Nota bene, every Saturday you can discover a market (Kollwitz Markt) where you get organic vegetables which you can prepare in the apartments.

But you should make sure that you do not miss the enchanted patios of the hotel “Ackselhaus and Blue Home”. Hotel & Lodge (2009)

hotel-lodge-2009 Both, the two buildings from the late 19th Century are located in the young and quiet Prenzlauer Berg, and they have have kept their original character. Ulf Acksel`s love for Bali is reflected in the design. Parquet floors, four poster beds made of wood, rattan furniture and the generous use of teak wood give the hotel an oriental touch. The blue and white room “Maritime” is very popular. Each house has its own garden, either naturally or wild and fishes swim in a long pool. To get to the pink-colored annex of the Blue home apartments, one has to go over stones, rising up from the water basin. If you enter the pink-colored house, you arrive on the island of peace and you can hear the nightingales singing. Benches and chairs invite travellers to relax. Behind the house there is a sunny conservatory. With the water splashing and the delightful chirping of birds, you lose the feeling of being in Berlin. Article on page 95: Two houses with 4 or 5 floors, which were opened in 1998 and 2004, bringing the traveller the comfort that he expects. The colonial and contemporary design fits well with the charm of old times. There are large four-poster beds, rattan chairs, six apartments with bath, the other with a shower and some with small kitchens. Very popular, the breakfast from 7 to 11 clock in the “Club del Mar”, which is a charming restaurant with rattan chairs and a fireplace burning during winter time.

Südostschweiz - Chili (2009)

chiliThe stucco decorated fireplace in the “Club del Mar”, the in-house breakfast café of the «ackselhaus» warms from the outside, the hot coffee with milk from the inside. The guest feels just a bit of luxury. The hotel «ackselhaus” are actually two houses, Berlin’s classic buildings from the Wilhelminian, with 35 apartments. You can find the ackselhaus & blue home in the middle of Prenzlauer Berg, the old workers’ quarters which is now the scene of Berlin, and are named after its founder and inventor Ulf Acksel. Each room is set up differently with high stucco ceilings, wooden window frames and old floorboards that creak. But the imperfect makes the charm of the apartment hotel «ackselhaus» aus:http://www.suedostschweiz.ch/lifestyle/chili/artikel.cfm?id=597050&ressort=06_Unterwegs&datum=2009-01-11

Time Out Berlin (2009)

time-out-berlin-engl-2009 Just doors apart, what ties these two establishments together - aside from their shared reception desk - is a wonderfully realised ´modernised colonial´style. In Ackselhaus each apartment has a bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and kitchenette, with old wooden floorboards, white walls, antique furniture and a Mediterranean feel. The blue and white ´Maritime Apartment´, with mahagony furniture and seafaring paintings, is particularly beautiful. Most rooms have two beds, and one larger apartment is suitable for four to five people. The pricier Blue home (at no. 24), with its blue facade, and balconies overlooking Belforter Straße, is home to the Club del Mar restaurant, which offers a breakfast buffet and open fireplace. There´s also a delightful balconied garden out back, complete with lawn chairs in the summer. Recommended, but make sure you book well ahead. Internet (wireless). Restaurant. TV.

1000 X EUROPEAN HOTELS (2008)

textThis 19th-century private home has been fully updated, refurbished and rebuilt into an apartment hotel. The building was extended sidewards with a new wing in the courtyard and upwards at the front by adding a steel and glass pavilion with a surrounding wooden terrace. The pavilion houses a two-story apartment. The modern design of the bathrooms and kitchens stands in contrast to the façade which has been remodeled in keeping with the original plans from 1889. The space at the front of the building on the ground floor have been redesigned as a breakfast room. The courtyard is given character with an elegant, shallow water feature and by utilizing planes of strong colors on the side walls.

GALA CITY GUIDE - BERLIN NOW! Edition of the year 2008, 2009 (2008)

textThe Kollwitzplatz area is one of the most interesting places in the old workers’ district of Prenzlauer Berg. The apartment hotel “ackselhaus” can be found there, as well. 35 flats, studios and suites, a backyard garden and a terrace invite one to find respite in a verdant atmosphere. Even though no room in the two Wilhelminian era buildings is quite like another, they all have timber floor boards, high stuccoed ceilings and frisky interior designs in common. Especially academics and artists like to spend their time in Berlin at the “ackselhaus”.
